*Coir – Film was made in the backdrop of coir industry, which was once common in backwaters of Kerala. Coir is made from coconut husk, which is abundant in Kerala, the state itself which is known by the name of coconut tree.

Chirayinkeezhu is a place belonging to Thiruvanthapuram district, which was once a hub of coir industry. There was a time when whole region prospered because of the coir sector. But like many things of the glorious past, traditional coir making industry of Kerala also lost its charm and glory. The movie – Kayalum Kayarum (1979) was made in the backdrop of the ruling coir industry in rural Kerala back then.
