Arun Alat – Malayalam Playback singer of ‘Swapnamoru Chakku’ fame

Arun Alat is a playback singer and musician of Malayalam cinema who shot to instant fame through his debut song, Swapnamoru Chakku from Mammootty starrer Best Actor in 2010. His first break to playback singing was given by Bijibal, who offered him some of his career best songs through the movies – Punyalan Agarbattis, Oru Cinemakkaran, Tamaar Padaar, Aby, Isaac Newton S/O Philipose, Innanu Aa Kalyanam, Rakshadhikari Baiju Oppu, Sevenes etc. His songs with Shaan Rahman also got noticed. He has also sung songs composed by Rahul Raj, Afsal Yusuf, Shankar Sharma, Rahul Subrahmanian, Ratheesh Vegha etc.

Arun Alat was born in Pilicode, Kasargod in 1988. He completed Civil engineering at Mar Athanasius College of Engineering, Kothamangalam in 2010, and the same year he got the first big break to playback singing. He worked as a civil engineer in a company at Kochi for next two years along with pursuing a career in music. Some of his popular songs include – Neelambalin from Oru Vadakkan Selfie, Haritha Nibida of Aadu, Namosthuthe of Thattathin Marayathu, Jeevithamennath of Rakshadhikari Baiju Oppu, Aarini of Paippin Chuvattile Pranayam, Vinnile Tharakam of Philips and Monkey Pen, Eesho Parayunna of Punyalan Agarbattis etc.

Arun Alat – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. He is not a trained classical singer. He loves to play guitar and jam.

2. Frequent exposure to dust can harm voice. That’s why he quit his engineering job after 2 years. He stay away from ice cream and cold food items too.

3. Though he grew up listening to Yesudas’ songs, his engineering days changed him completely. He got exposed to new genres of music which he never heard before.

4. During his college days, he formed a musical band with his friends and has auditioned for a popular voice hunt.

5. He has also formed a music band with playback singer Sachin Warrier. The band was named as ‘Six and Eight Sessions’.

6. This young composer who composes songs with fragrance of Kasaragod dreams to travel across India and interact, learn and collaborate with street musicians and Sufi musicians to compose new tunes.
