Mackerel with Thick Gravy (Ayala Vattichathu)

Ingredients for Mackerel with Thick Gravy (Ayala Vattichathu):

1. Mackerel (Ayala) – 3

2. Coconut oil – As needed

3. Mustard – 1 small spoon

    Fenugreek – 1 small spoon

4. Shallots – 10, chopped

   Ginger – 1 piece, chopped

   Garlic – 5 cloves, chopped

   Green chillies – 5, split into two

   Curry leaves – 2 stems

5. Kashmiri Chilli powder – 3 small spoons

    Coriander powder – 2 small spoons

    Turmeric powder – 1 small spoon

6. Salt and water – As needed

    Pot tamarind – 3 pieces

How to prepare Mackerel with Thick Gravy (Ayala Vattichathu)?

1. Clean fish and cut into pieces.

2. Heat oil in an earthen pot and sputter fenugreek and mustard seeds.

3. Add ingredients no: 4 and sauté it.

4. Add ingredients no: 5 and fry well till raw smell goes out.

5. Add ingredients no: 6 and boil the contents well.

6. Add fish pieces and cook till it’s done.
