Karuna Sukka – The printmaker and painter based in Telangana

B. Karuna or Karuna Sukka is an Indian artist based in Hyderabad, Telangana. She works with large-scale wood-cuts to make prints, which make her a popular printmaker and painter of present day times from the state of Telangana. She is married to well-known painter Sunder Sukka, and the local-artist couple has worked together for a few collaborations like MS Maqtha, and has also conducted an exhibition of paintings and prints at Shrishti Art Gallery, Hyderabad in 2011. Karuna has also conducted two solo exhibitions, apart from being a part of more than 25 group exhibitions since 2002.

Karuna Sukka was born in Hyderabad in 1980. As she was serious about her career in the field of art and painting, she completed B.F.A Painting and M.F.A Printmaking, both from Hyderabad followed by Master’s in Museology from Vadodara. Since academic years, she has been fully active with activities and exhibitions. Her works are autobiographical anecdotes.

Karuna Sukka – Some interesting and unknown facts

1. Most of her exhibitions have been conducted in the art galleries of Hyderabad. She has also conducted exhibitions in other parts of the country like Kochi, New Delhi etc.

2. She is a recipient of many scholarships including National Merit scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, HRD in 2007.

3. Her first exhibition was conducted at Parliament of India in 2002, “Spote” Art for peace.

4. She has conducted one solo exhibition of Drawings & Paintings at Shrishti Art Gallery, Hyderabad in 2008 followed by one more at Kashi Art Gallery, Kochi in 2009.
