Galla Jayadev – Indian politician and industrialist from Andhra Pradesh

Galla Jayadev is an Indian politician and industrialist from Diguvamagham, Andhra Pradesh. He represents Guntur constituency of Andhra Pradesh in Lok Sabha, and has been holding this seat since 2014. He is a representative of Telugu Desam Party. In 2019 general elections he defeated Modugula Venugopala Reddy of YSR Congress to win parliamentary elections for the second consecutive term. He won by a narrow margin of 4205 votes. Many of his family members and close relatives are industrialists, film actors and politicians.  

His name is also addressed as Jayadev Galla and Jay Galla. He was born into an influential industrialist and political family of Diguvamagham in 1966. He is the son of Ramachandra Naidu Galla – well-known industrialist and Aruna Kumari Galla – an ex minister of Andhra Pradesh. His paternal grandfather Paturi Rajagopala Naidu was a farmers’ leader, freedom fighter and parliamentarian. He married from a filmy family. His wife Padmavathi Galla is the daughter of yesterday star Krishna. Thus he is brother-in-law of Telugu actors – Ramesh Babu, Mahesh Babu and Manjula Swaroop. Thus actors like Sudheer Babu, Vijaya Nirmala and Namrata Shirodkar become his close relatives.

Galla Jayadev moved to US with his parents at a young age, where he stayed for 22 years. After studies he worked as international sales executive at GNB Battery Technologies in USA and later returned back to his hometown. He studied politics and economics. In India, he began his career as an industrialist and businessman before joining politics. Initially he assisted his father in business. In 2003 he took over the charge as the managing director of Amara Raja Batteries. Later following his mother’s footsteps he joined politics in 2014. Both of them joined Telugu Desam Party. His mother was a Congress leader till then.

Galla Jayadev – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. One of the wealthiest Indian parliamentarians, he declared assets of 683 crore Indian rupees during 2014 general elections.

2. His comment at parliament that film Baahubali earned more amount as collections than the fund allocated to Andhra Pradesh brought him to spotlight. He is also known for many such popular and hilarious comments in Lok sabha.
