Bhushan Tiwari – Less-known ‘henchman’ of Hindi cinema

Bhushan Tiwari was a character artist of Bollywood cinema, who was active during 1970s-1990s. Neel Kamal in 1968 is his first credited role as a film actor, and his last release was Tamanna in 1998. He is the son of noted character artist Ramayan Tiwari. Interestingly both of their names have been credited as ‘Tiwari’ many number of times in Hindi cinema. He was a part of the small screen adaption of The Far Pavilions in the 1980s. Bhushan Tiwari is best known for his henchman roles in Zanjeer (1973), Parvarish (1977) etc.

Bhushan Tiwari hailed from Bihar, and his father Ramayan Tiwari was one of the early artists from Bihar to establish a career in Bollywood in the early 1940s. Bhushan Tiwari too followed the footsteps of his father and reached Bollywood at a young age, when Ramayan Tiwari was fully active in the industry in the late 1960s. Neel Kamal – the story of incarnation is his first credited film role. He later appeared in some of the popular films of 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Tiwari was married to Maya Tiwari and had three sons.

Bhushan Tiwari – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. His name is credited as Bhooshan Tiwari, Bhushan Tiwari or simply ‘Tiwari’ in his filmy works.

2. Filmography list of Ramayan Tiwari has mixed up with his son Bhushan Tiwari’s films, as both were credited as ‘Tiwari’ in opening credits. Such mix ups have occurred in 1970s and 1980s.

3. Like his father he mostly played bad man on screen and got noticed for henchman and smuggler roles. He only earned limited success just like his father, and failed to get a major breakthrough.

4. Some of his best roles are Kunwara Baap, Zanjeer, Parvarish etc, and he has appeared in minor roles in Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Banarasi Babu, Hum Kisise Kum Naheen, Yari Dushmani, Gangaa Jamunaa Saraswathi, Toofan, Dil Aashna Hai, Tamanna etc.

5. Little is known about his date of birth. Wikipedia says, he died in 2011, which mismatches with several online sites.
