Ayub Khan – Noted Television actor and film actor of ‘Uttaran’ fame

Ayub Khan is a Bollywood actor of 1990s, currently associated with television shows. He shot to fame playing “Jogi Thakur” in the show Uttaran. He marked his film debut with 1992 flop film Mashooq which featured the popular melody, ‘Kaun Ho Tum Jo’. Ayesha Jhulka played his female lead. Later he played lead role in a string of flops like Salaami, Smuggler, Meri Aan, Salma Pe Dil Aa Gaya, Mrityudant, Chehraa etc before he switched to character roles in late 1990s. In supporting roles too, he got only limited success and later he moved to television.

Ayub Khan belongs to a family with rich filmy tradition. His parents Nasir Khan and Begum Para were Bollywood actors of classic era, and he is the nephew of legendary actor Dilip Kumar. Thus actress Saira Banu is his aunt. He is married to Niharika Bhasin, whom he knew since college days. Both divorced their spouses to marry each other. They got separated when Niharika went to US for studies. Though Ayub proposed her she felt it was too immature to marry then. They met after 10 years when both were going through troubled marriage lives and both decided to give their relation a second try. Currently he is fully active in television industry and only a seasonal film actor. Shakti — Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki, Zindagi Abhi Baaki Hai Mere Ghost, Ek Hasina Thi, India Calling, Uttaran, Sajda Tere Pyaar Mein, Muskaan etc are some of his television roles.

Ayub Khan – Some interesting facts

1. Ayub played Twinkle Khanna’s brother’s role in 2000 film, Mela, and was also featured in one of its title track versions.

2. Though he couldn’t make it big in Bollywood, he owns some fine melodies of 1990s. Kaun Ho Tum Jo from Mashooq, Chehra Kya Dekhte Ho and Khoobsurat Hai Woh from Salaami, Kehdo Ek Baar Sajna from Mrityudant, Title track from Salma Pe Dil Aa Gaya, Hudh Se Zyaada from Chehraa etc are some of the songs filmed on him.

3. Actress Amrita Singh is his niece by relation, though she is seven years older to him. Amrita’s mother Rukhsana Sultana, well-known socialite of 1970s was his cousin from mother’s side. Thus he is related to Pataudi family members like Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, Sharmila Tagore, Soha Ali Khan and Sara Ali Khan.

4. He played Madhuri Dixit’s husband in less-glamorous but acclaimed film, Mrityudant, a revenge drama which received rave reviews.
