Karimeen Masala Fish Fry (Pearl Spot Masala Fish Fry)
Ingredients for Karimeen Masala Fish Fry (Pearl Spot Masala Fish Fry):
1. Pomfret/Pearl Spot – 3
2. Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Black pepper powder – 1 tablespoon
Chilli powder – 1/2 teaspoon
Salt – As required
Lemon juice – 1 teaspoon
3. Egg – 1, beaten
4. Coconut oil – As required
5. Onion – 1 large, sliced
6. Green chillies – 2, sliced
Shallots, sliced lengthwise – 1/2 cup
7. Tomato – 1, finely chopped
8. Garlic – 4 cloves, sliced
Ginger – 1 small piece, chopped
9. Crushed pepper and cumin – 1 tablespoon
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Fenugreek powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Fish masala – 1 teaspoon
Garam masala – 3/4 teaspoon
10. Hot water – 1/2 cup
11. Vinegar – 1 teaspoon
How to prepare Karimeen Masala Fish Fry (Pearl Spot Masala Fish Fry)?
1. Clean and cut the fish, then rub with the second set of ingredients and leave for 1 hour.
2. Dip the marinated fish pieces in the beaten egg and fry in hot oil without overcooking.
3. In the same oil, sauté onions until half cooked, then add green chillies and shallots and cook further.
4. Add tomatoes and sauté, then add garlic and ginger, sautéing until fragrant.
5. Cover and cook on low heat, stirring occasionally.
6. When the oil starts separating, add the ninth set of ingredients one by one, mix well, and sauté.
7. Pour in the hot water and bring to a boil.
8. Once it boils, remove half of the masala and arrange the fish pieces in layers.
9. Spread the reserved masala over the fish, pour in the vinegar, cover, and cook on low heat.
10. Serve with rice.
