Muthira Puli (Horse Gram Tamarind Curry)

Ingredients for Muthira Puli (Horse Gram Tamarind Curry):

1. Coconut oil – 2 tablespoons 

2. Fenugreek seeds – 1/2 teaspoon 

   Black pepper – 1 teaspoon 

3. Grated coconut – 1 cup 

   Shallots – 3 

   Chilli powder – 1 tablespoon 

   Turmeric powder – 1/2 teaspoon 

   Tamarind – Gooseberry-sized 

4. Horse gram cooked water – 1 litre 

    Salt – As required 

5. Coconut oil – As required 

6. Mustard seeds – 1/2 teaspoon 

    Dried red chillies – 4, cut 

7. Curry leaves – As required 

8. Asafoetida – A pinch

How to prepare Muthira Puli (Horse Gram Tamarind Curry)?

1. Heat coconut oil in a pan and splutter fenugreek seeds and black pepper.

2. Add the third set of ingredients and roast on low flame.

3. Once the grated coconut turns golden brown, remove it from heat and grind it to a smooth paste after cooling.

4. In a pot, add the cooked horse gram water and salt, then bring to a boil.

5. Keep it on low flame, add the ground paste, and stir continuously. Do not let it boil.

6. When it thickens, remove from heat and add the sixth set of tempered ingredients along with crushed curry leaves.

7. Mix in the asafoetida powder and serve.
