Surveen Chawla – Bollywood actress of ‘Hate Story 2’ fame

Surveen Chawla is a successful actress who works in movies, television and web series. She is best known for Bollywood revenge drama – Hate Story 2 released in 2014. She was also a part of ensemble of Ugly, Parched and the television series, 24. In 2018 she marked her web series debut with Haq Se and Sacred Games. She shared Best actress awards at Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (Grand Jury Prize) aside Radhika Apte, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Lehar Khan for her role in Parched. She works in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu  and Punjabi language films, and has also appeared in a few music videos, most notably ‘Mitran De Boot’ with Jazzy B.

Surveen Chawla was born in Chandigarh into a business family in 1984. As an actress she marked her debut with the television show, Kahin To Hoga in 2003. It was followed by the TV shows – Kasautii Zindagi Kay and lead role in Kaajjal. As a film actress she got her first break through south Indian movies, followed by Punjabi and Hindi films. Kannada film Paramesha Panwala in 2008 marked her film debut. Hum Tum Shabana in 2011 marked her debut in Bollywood, and her most memorable role till now is Hate Story 2. She played lead role in several south Indian movies like Jai Hind 2, Moondru Per Moondru Kadhal etc and a few Punjabi movies too.

Surveen Chawla – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. She appeared in the reality dance show Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena in 2008, alongside cricketer Sreesanth.

2. She hosted the iconic music television show of Doordarshan, Rangoli during 2018-2019. The show has been hosted by many Bollywood actresses since 1980s.

3. She hosted the show Comedy Circus Ke Superstars in 2010.

4. She has done a few item songs in Bollywood such as “Tutti Bole Marriage Di” of Welcome Back, “Sawan Aaya Hai” of Creature 3D and “Dhoka Dhoka” of Himmatwala.

5. She received PTC Punjabi Film award for best female debut for 2011 film, Dharti.

6. She once faced casting couch experience in the industry. However she turned down the offer.

7. Popular revived version of “Aaj Phir Tum Se” from Hate Story 2 was filmed on Jay Bhanushali and Surveen Chawla.

8. She learnt scuba diving for the film, Hate Story 2.

9. As per reports, her parents were unhappy with her bold scenes in Hate Story 2 though the actress denied it. But she has admitted that she faced a temporary nervous breakdown after shooting a sexual violence scene.   

10. She owns a clothing line with her mother – Contemporary Dupatta.

11. She has been linked with Bollywood actor Apurva Agnihotri, TV actor Gaurav Chopra and cricketer Sreesanth. But the rumours were short-lived.

12. She was earlier engaged to businessman Vattan Dhiman and now married to Akshay Thakkar. She gave birth to a girl in 2019.
