Premix food or Premixes are combinations of food ingredients that are prepared in advance. Having them ready, and having them in your storage, helps you to finish cooking in no time. If you are a working mom, these premixes come in handy. Once the mixture is prepared and stored in a closed jar, it can be kept in the refrigerator for up to two months. Easy Premix Upma
Roast the rava (semolina) without adding any kind of oil and set it aside. Then, in ghee, roast mustard seeds, urad dal, Bengal gram, dry red chillies, ginger, green chillies, curry leaves, and cashew nuts separately. Now mix the roasted rava with these fried ingredients along with sufficient salt, combine well, and store the mixture in a jar. To prepare upma, add this premix to boiling water and stir well. Your upma will be ready in a few minutes. If needed, you can add scrapped coconut and carrot at the time of making, to make it more delicious and nutritious.
Easy Premix Rava Idli
The same mixture can also be used to prepare delicious rava idlis. Mix half a cup of the rava premix with one-fourth cup of curd. Use this proportion. Add coriander leaves, turmeric powder, and water, then let it rest for 10 minutes. After that, you can prepare the rava idlis.
Pre-Noon Nut Snack
You can make an easy premix food using nuts. Chopped almonds, cashew nuts, and walnuts, along with pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries, raisins, and rolled oats, can be roasted in an air fryer without adding oil. Store the mixture in an airtight tin. You can have it mixed with milk or curd and use it as a pre-noon or evening snack. You can also instantly make it a powder, when you want.
Dal Curry Premix
Wash and dry toor dal (pigeon pea), masoor dal, and green gram dal, then roast them in oil and grind into a powder. In ghee, splutter mustard seeds and cumin seeds, then roast dry red chillies, asafoetida powder, turmeric powder, chilli powder, and coriander powder. Add kasuri methi, curry leaves, and coriander leaves, mix well, and then add the ground dal powder and salt. Heat it well. You can store in airtight containers. When you are ready to prepare the dish, add chopped tomatoes to boiling water, then add this premix food of dal mix and cook until done.
Poha Premix
Lightly roast 2 cups of poha till crisp. Fry half spoon each of mustard, cumin, turmeric powder, along with 2 broken red chillies, a handful of peanuts and some curry leaves in a little ghee. Mix everything in an airtight container. Add salt too. During preparation, add sufficient amount of water to Poha Premix, boil it well until it’s well cooked. You can add lemon juice to enhance the flavour.
Note: Never use refined oils to prepare premixes, as they can get damaged easily after some time. Instead, use ghee for frying items and store for long days.
