Kozhikode Kaalan recipe o Kaalan for Kozhikode Sadya

Ingredients for Kozhikode Kaalan:

  1. Elephant yam, cut into small pieces after removing skin – 1 cup
    Raw banana split into two and chopped (after removing skin) – 1 cup
    Pepper powder – 3 small spoons
    Turmeric powder – 3 small spoons
    Salt – As required
  2. Curd – 2 cups
  3. Coconut scraped – 1.5 cups
    Green chillies – 4
    Cumin seeds – 2 small spoons
  4. Fenugreek fried and powdered – 2 small spoons
  5. Ghee – 1 big spoon
    Mustard – 1 big spoon
    Red chillies – 4 cut into pieces
    Curry leaves – A handful

How to prepare Kozhikode Kaalan?

  1. Mix ingredients no: 1 together, add sufficient water, and cook well.
  2. Add curd to cooked vegetables and boil well.
  3. Make a fine paste of ingredients no: 3 and add to the curry.
  4. When it’s done, take the curry from the flame, add fenugreek powder, and mix well.
  5. Heat ghee in a pan, temper ingredients no: 6 and add to the curry.
  6. Mix well and serve.
