Sidharth Malhotra is a very popular Bollywood actor who plays lead roles. This handsome young model with non-filmy background owns a string of hits right from debut. He was launched to onscreen by Karan Johar through Student of the Year (2012), which also marked the screen debut of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sana Saeed. Hasee Toh Phasee, Ek Villain, Kapoor & Sons, Brothers, Ittefaq and Aiyaary are other major works of his career. He was born in Delhi in 1985 to a Navy officer, and he doesn’t own a filmy background. He completed his studies from Delhi, before pursuing a career in modelling. He turned a model at the age of 18, yet left his success journey as a model three years later, as he was dissatisfied with the profession. He wanted to pursue a career in Bollywood, moved to Mumbai at the age of 21 and successfully auditioned for a movie directed by Anubhav Sinha. But the movie got shelved.

He started his film journey as an assistant director under Karan Johar for the movie, My Name is Khan, and later the same director launched him through his next release, Student of the year, aside a bunch of newcomers. It was followed by 2014 romantic comedy Hasee Toh Phasee, which was a commercial hit. He played younger brother of Akshay Kumar in Brother (2015), which was an average fare at box office.

In 2016, he was paired with debutante co-star Alia Bhat for the movie, Kapoor & Sons and the movie was a box office hit. There were rumours of his relationship with his co-star Alia those days. After the success of Kapoor & Sons, his films such as Baar Baar Dekho co-starring Katrina Kaif, A Gentleman co-starring Jacqueline Fernandez, Ittefaq opposite Sonakshi Sinha and Neeraj Pandey’s Aiyaary opposite Rakul Preet Singh couldn’t revive the success of his previous hits. His 2019 releases – Jabariya Jodi and Marjaavaan, became huge flops. SherShaah is his upcoming project, a biographical-action film based on the life of Kargil Martyr Captain Vikram Batra.

1. In the decade of 2010s, he is one among the rare actors in Bollywood, who established his career without film or television background (except a brief and less-significant role).

2. Dharti Ka Veer Yodha Prithviraj Chauhan aired on Star Plus was his acting debut, where he played the brief role of Jaichand in 2006. Student Of The Year released 6 years after that.

3. His debut film – Student of the Year is the first movie directed by Karan Johar, without featuring Shah Rukh Khan, in his 14-year old career till then.

4. As his surname is Malhotra, many believed that he is the nephew of Manish Malhotra. Due to Karan Johar’s stand for favouring artists belonging to filmy background too, many people still believe that he belongs to a filmy family. But it is not at all true.

5. As a male model, he owns a successful career. He has walked on ramp for many shows, and also featured in several fashion magazines.

6. He won the ‘Face of the Year’ title at Gladrags men’s pageant in 2009. He was not serious about modelling career those days, and he pursued modelling only for fun and to earn pocket money.

7. While he was busy in his modelling journey, he was offered a role in Fashion. As he had a contract with Gladrags, he couldn’t accept the role.
