Shruti Ramachandran – South Indian Film Actress of ‘Pretham’ Fame

Shruti Ramachandran is a south Indian film actress, who predominantly works in Malayalam movies. She shot to fame after playing the titular role of ‘Pretham’ in Malayalam horror comedy film, Pretham (2016). She appears as the ghost with the name Clara in the climax of the film. Njaan, Nonsense, Sunday Holiday, Chanakya Thanthram etc are other noted movies in Malayalam, while she was a part of Dollhouse Diaries – a Tamil web series released in 2018, where she played Mythili. She marks her Telugu debut with Dear Comrade, playing second lead aside Geeta Govindam pair – Vijay Devarakonda and Rashmika Mandanna.

Shruti Ramachandran is a native of Ernakulum, Kerala. She is a freelancer architect by profession, who currently works as assistant professor in Azadi Engineering College, Vytila. She received formal training in classical dance forms from Narayani Anoop who recommended her name to director Ranjith who was in search of a new face. Thus 2014 film Njaan marked her screen debut where she played the brief role of Susheela, Dulquer’s love interest. Her role as ghost in search of revenge in the movie, Pretham, and opportunist lover of Asif Ali in Sunday Holiday were well received. It was followed by her big break, playing lead role opposite Joju George in Madhuram.

Shruti Ramachandran – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. Chanakya Thanthram, co-starring Unni Mukundan is her first full-fledged role as a lead actress.

2. Soon after the release of Pretham, she married her longtime boyfriend Francis Thomas in 2016. She met him for the first time at Chennai, where she pursued her graduation in architecture. He was studying Visual Communication in the same college. He proposed her 6 times and finally she nodded ‘Yes’, and they own 9-years love story. 

3. She completed her Master’s degree from Barcelona before starting her career as a lecturer.

4. Once she had an experience when children ran away from her, fearing her as ‘Pretham’ (ghost).

5. She didn’t do dubbing for her movie, Pretham. But later won Kerala state award for best dubbing artist for, Ruhani Sharma’s character in Kamala (2019).

6. Her brief role as betraying lover in ‘Sunday Holiday’ earned her the name, ‘Theppukari’, because the role turned very famous. Her dancing sequences in this film, earned her role in Telugu film, ‘Dear Comrade‘.

7. Her maternal grandfather has been a part of film industry, in still ad field. He has drawn posters for famous film, Chemmeen.
