Neha Kakkar – The queen of peppy numbers and remixes in Bollywood

Neha Kakkar is one of the leading female voices of Bollywood, mostly associated with fast tracks and remixes. She also owns a few melodious hits to her credit. This celebrated singer has an immense fan following crowd. Her elder sister Sonu Kakkar is also a successful playback singer, and often their names are confused with yet another singing female trio of Bollywood because of same surname. Interestingly the trio are siblings and successful singers of Bollywood – Akriti Kakar, Prakriti Kakar and Sukriti Kakar. Neha’s brother Tony Kakkar is also a singer, and the duo owns many hit singles and cover versions to their credit. Mile Ho Tum (Reprise) is one such song.

Neha Kakkar was born in 1988 in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, and her childhood was spent in Delhi. She started her singing lessons at the age of 4. In 2006 she appeared as a contestant of Indian Idol – Season 2, while studying Plus-two. In 2008 she released her first album, Neha -The Rock Star. Her elder sister has already joined Bollywood in 2003 with the chartbuster item song – Babuji Zaara Dheer Chalo from Dum.

As a playback singer, she got into films in 2009. She provided back vocals from A. R. Rahman’s title track of Blue, title track of Na Aana Is Des Laado and “Hai Rama” of Meerabai Not Out the same year. After that she had a brief career in south Indian films, before she returned back to Bollywood. Now she is mostly associated with fast songs and remixes. Dilbar Dilbar (remix), Tu Cheez Badi Hai (remix), Coco Cola Song (Revived), Kala Chashma etc cemented her position in Bollywood music. She has also collaborated with artists for independent songs.

She broke up with actor Himansh Kohli in 2018, after dating for 4 years. She said that actor has always complained her for not giving quality time. There were rumours that Himansh was suspicious of Neha’s loyalty in their relationship and hence she called off. She later said that she is happy to have moved on from the ‘bad relationship’. She also went into depression post breakup.

1. Her professional career as a singer began in Delhi. She feels that Delhites love Punjabi music more than Mumbains.

2. She only sang bhajans (Hindu devotional songs) from 4 to 16 years.

3. Neha has sung a few Kannada, Punjabi, Telugu and Bengali film songs.

4. She has been trolled many times for expressing her emotions in the public.

5. She was a celebrity judge of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs on ZEE TV.

6. She played a cameo role in 2010 Bollywood film, Isi Life Mein.

7. After the family shifted to Delhi in the early 1990s, it faced financial troubles. To help the family the three siblings started singing bhajans and performing at jagratas in and around Delhi.

8. For each performance the siblings used to get rupees 50 in the early 1990s.

9. The music talents of the kids were well supported by parents, which later helped them to become financially independent.

10. Her brother Tony Kakkar has composed and penned lyrics for chartbuster songs like ‘Coco Cola Tu’ and ‘Mile Ho Tum Hum Ko’ and Neha has rendered her voice for their revived versions, alongside Tony.
