Ramakrishna – Telugu film actor of yesterdays

Ramakrishna (1939 – 2001) was a Telugu film actor of yesterdays who has acted in more than 200 movies. He has also done a few Tamil and Malayalam movies, and he excelled in mythological roles. Started his film journey in year 1960 he was quite active in film scene in the 1960s and 1970s, doing both lead and character roles. He was a stage actor who joined films, and his second wife Geetanjali was also a well-known character artist of Telugu cinema. He played lead role in Nomu and Pooja, parallel lead of Lord Vishnu in Shri Vinayaka Vijayamu and did supporting roles in Daksha Yagnam, Sri Krishnavataram, Sukha Dukhalu, Marina Manishi, Bhakta Tukaram, Katakataala Rudraiah etc. He shared screen space with N. T. Rama Rao and Akkinen iNageswara Rao in many movies.

Geetanjali ramakrishna

Ramakrishna was born on 15 October 1939 in Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh. He was a stage actor who moved to Chennai to pursue a career in films. Later he joined films in year 1960. Nithya Kalyanam Pachathoranam was his debut flick. Initially he played small roles and rose to prominence in the late 1960s. He was quite busy in the 1970s also. His first wife was a lady from his hometown, who died at a young age. Later he married his co-star Geetanjali, with whom he worked in many movies, mostly in supporting roles. They had one son. He passed away due to cancer in year 2001, and his wife outlived him for nearly two decades and passed away in October 2019.

Ramakrishna – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. He was already married when he joined films in year 1960. He left his wife and daughter in his hometown and reached Chennai to try his luck in films.

2. Ramakrishna’s first wife passed away at a young age, and after working with Geetanjali for a few movies they fell in love and got married after the release of Ranabheri. When Ramakrishna passed away due to cancer in 2001, Geetanjali went into depression for a short time.
