Nikhila Vimal – Popular South Indian Film Actress

Nikhila Vimal is a successful south Indian film actress, who predominantly works in Malayalam cinema. She made her screen debut as female lead opposite Dileep in Love 24×7, followed by memorable performances in a lead role in Oru Yamandan Premakadha, Aravindante Athidhikal, Mera Naam Shaji, Njan Prakashan etc. She has done a few Tamil and Telugu films also. Vetrivel, Kidaari, Panjumittai etc are Tamil releases and Meda Meeda Abbayi and Gayatri – a couple of movies in Telugu. She is a part of south Indian film industry since 2009 playing a brief role in Bhagyadevatha, and has done more than a dozen of films in three languages since 2015.

Nikhila Vimal hails from Thaliparambu, Kannur. Her mother is a dance teacher who owns a dance institute. The family has close relationship with Sathyan Anthikad, and that’s how she got a brief role in Bhagyadevatha. Before that she has appeared in a television documentary on Saint Alphonsa. Someone suggested her name to Anthikad after watching this documentary film. Her actual screen debut happened with Love 24×7. Though the film received positive reviews, it failed to become a hit. However her portrayal of a news reporter in Thiruvananthapuram slang got noticed and she bagged more film roles in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu industries. Kidaari and Vetrivel – marked her Tamil debut in 2016 and Meda Meeda Abbayi marked her Telugu debut in 2017. She played second lead in 2019 Tamil release Thampi. She played Rebeccaa Lewis, the victim who kills ACP Anil Madhavan in the climax in 2020 investigation thriller, Anjaam Paathiraa.

Nikhila Vimal – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. She never thought of acting stream. That’s why she didn’t appear in any movie for a long time post Bhagyadevatha. But when she was offered the meaty lead role opposite Dileep in Love 24×7, she couldn’t say no.  

2. Soon after Bhagyadevatha, she did a film in Tamil which was shelved.

3. She was nominated for Best Debut Actress for Kidaari in SIIMA Awards 2017.

4. The lead role of Ramante Edanthottam was initially offered to Nikhila. She couldn’t accept the film because of date issues.

5. She worked with Sathyan Anthikad in Bhagyadevatha and Njan Prakashan.

6. Though her mother Kalamandalam Vimaladevi owns a dance institute, Nikhila never took dancing seriously. She was so lazy that she never practised it continuously.
