Darbuka Siva – Musician of Yodhakaa and La Pongal musical projects

Darbuka Siva is a musician, music director and actor who predominantly works in Tamil film industry. He is an actor turned musician, who debut as an actor in 2015 through the movie, Rajathandhiram, where he portrayed Austin D’Costa. Kidaari marked his career as a music composer the following year. He is also known as a music producer. Yodhakaa and La Pongal are his major projects as an independent musician, which cemented his position in the industry. ‘Maruvaarthai’ from Gautam Menon’s Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta is one of his major hits. The director initially kept composer’s name as secret under the name, Mr. X. But the movie is not released yet.

He hails from a middle-class family of Chennai, born in 1982. Though he loved music and wanted to do experiments with it, his family conditions were not favourable. He became a part of local music circuit during his college days. He was so serious about music those days that he started attending music shows and followed by musicians and shows in Chennai circuit, bunking his college classes. In 1999 he bought a basic drum kit and started self-learning music. He started off as a drummer and luck favoured him to become a music producer and composer. He composed music for Nimir, Kidari, Rocky etc. He is now associated with independent music as well, best known for collaborating international artists for his experimental projects.

1. Siva is not formally trained in music. A mix of mix of intuition and inspirations form his musical experiments.

2. He loves football as equally as music, and he would have bene managing football teams if he has not reached film industry.

3. Darbuka Siva bro’ject is one of his independent works which expressed music through images and sounds.

4. He started a music band, ‘Zahrra’ in 2003 along with Tanvi Shah, followed by ‘Yodhakaa’ for classical music in 2005 and ‘La Pongal’, a platform for contemporary folk music.

5. He has been formerly associated with Radio Mirchi as a radio jockey in 2007.

6. He was seen in Tamil movies – Thodari and Mo.
