Amaal Mallik – Bollywood new generation music composer and playback singer

Amaal Mallik is a successful music composer and playback singer associated with Bollywood since year 2005. He turned a full-fledged music composer in 2014 by composing three songs of Jai Ho. Over the years he has established as a successful composer and playback singer. He is the elder son of popular singer and music composer Daboo Malik and nephew of famous music director of 1990s – Anu Malik. He is the grandson of Sardar Malik – well known music composer of 1950s and early 1960s and grandnephew of Hasrat Jaipuri – celebrated Bollywood lyricist and Urdu poet. His younger brother Armaan Malik is also a popular singer and an actor. His cousin sister Anmol Malik (Anu Malik’s daughter) is also a playback singer, lyricist and composer, representing the third generation of musicians from the family.

Amaal Malik, born into a musical family in Mumbai in 1991, inherited music from her father and grandfather, both well-known music directors of Bollywood industry. His uncle Anu Malik is a big name in Bollywood music industry, who completely dominated the scene in the second half of 1990s and early 2000s. He was initiated to the world of Hindustani by his grandfather Sardar Malik and later he studied piano from Trinity College of Music. Amaal started his musical career at a young age of 15, after 10th standard. He worked as an assistant music director and background scorer in Bollywood since 2005. Initially he produced and arranged songs for his father. He also worked as an assistant to Amar Mohile for Sarkar (2005) and Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007).

Since 2008 for the next three years he worked as an assistant in the background score department of Preetam for Bollywood films, and also for jingles. In 2014 he made an impressive debut as the music director of Salman Khan starrer Jai Ho and composed three songs – Jai Ho, Tumko To Aana Hi Tha and Love You Till The End (House Mix). All these three songs were recorded in his younger brother’s voice. His hit single – Naina from Khoobsurat established his career in Bollywood. It was followed by Tumhe Apna Banane Ka (revived version) for Hate Story 3, through which he shot to instant fame. He along with Ankit Tiwari and Meet Bros Anjjan won Filmfare awards for best music director of 2015 for the movie, Roy. His single of the album, Sooraj Dooba Hain was an instant chartbuster, which won many musical honours.

Apart from many chartbuster songs, he also owns many hit singles with T-series company, a few of them sung by his brother – Armaan Malik. Main Rahoon Ya Na Rahoon and Ghar Se Nikalte Hi are his most popular independent singles sung by his brother. In fact the duo began their successful full-fledged career in Bollywood with the three songs of Jai Ho, which Amaan composed and Arman rendered his voice. They were launched by actor Salman Khan through his movie.

One of the promising young composers of Bollywood industry at present, he has composed chartbuster songs for Roy, Khoobsurat, Hate Story 3, Air Lift, Mastizaade, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Sanam Re, Force 2, Baar Baar Dekho, Sanam Re, Mubarakan, Hero, All is well, Azhar, Baaghi, Kapoor & Sons, Sarbjit, Do Lafzon Ki Kahani etc. He composed all songs for Noor, and M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story except the track ‘Har Gully Mein Dhoni Hai’.

His own composition – O Khuda for the movie, Hero marked his singing debut in 2015. However he is more concentrated towards composing songs. He rendered his voice for chartbuster songs like Aashiq Surrender Hua from Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Gulabi 2.0 from Noor, Soch Na Sake from Airlift (supporting vocals), Hua Hain Aaj Pehli Baar from Sanam Re (co-singer), The Goggle Song from Mubarakan etc.

1. He is the youngest music composer to compose songs for Amitabh Bachchan. He got this credit after composing songs for 2019 movie – Badla. He composed three songs for the movie, Kyun Rabba, Its Reprise Version and Tum Na Aaye.

2. He is the grandnephew of famous Urdu poet and lyricist, Hasrat Jaipuri. Her paternal grandmother is the sister of the popular poet.

3. His uncle Abu Malik is a composer best known as a businessman and an organizer of live shows in India and abroad with more than 10000 live shows to his credit. He has penned a book named ‘Rantings of a Madman‘ and is a contestant of Sony TV’s Bigg Boss Season – 13 in 2019.

4. His family is related to Ghulam Hassan Shaggan, Pakistani classical music singer of the Gwalior Gharana.

5. The brothers Amaal Malik and Armaan Malik sang the chartbuster song – Hua Hain Aaj Pehli Baar for Sanam Re, composed by the elder brother. Palak Muchhal is the female voice. The Goggle Song from Mubarakan is yet another song (aside Sonu Nigam, Neeti Mohan and Tulsi Kumar).

6. Chale Aana from De De Pyaar De is the first song for which Malik brothers collaborated with their father. The trio also worked together for the songs of ‘W’, a film scripted by Daboo Malik in 2014.

7. Shraddha Kapoor rendered her voice for the popular romantic song – Sab Tera from Baaghi composed by Amaal. Armaan Malik is the male voice.

8. He has composed more than 100 ad jingles, apart from music for TV shows.
