Kapil Mishra – Politician and Cabinet Minister from Delhi

Kapil Mishra is a politician from Delhi, who currently serves as Cabinet Minister, Water Resource Management. Formally associated with Aam Aadmi Party till 2017, he now is affiliated to Bharatiya Janata Party. He formerly served as MLA of Karawal Nagar in Delhi state assembly during 14 February 2015 – 2 August 2019, before he was he was disqualified from the Legislative Assembly under the anti-defection law. He joined BJP very soon. In 2020 February he hogged the limelight for his hatred speech just before North East Delhi Riots, and relatives of deceased accused him of inciting the clashes through his words. Already three complaints have been filed against Mishra.

Kapil Mishra was born in 1980 into a political family as the son of Rameshwar Mishra “Pankaj” and Annapurna Mishra. His mother, BJP councillor from Sonia Vihar, she is the First Mayor of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation. During his academic years, Kapil co-founded “Youth for Justice”, a New Delhi based youth action group meant for finding solutions to socio-economic problems. Farmers’ suicide, Jessica Lal murder trial and encroachment on Yamuna River bed are the major problems which his group dealt with, and slowly he rose to the status of a youth icon.

He joined Aam Aadmi Party in 2013 and successfully contested state assembly elections from Karawal Nagar constituency in 2015. He represented AAP in state assembly during 2015-2019. He openly shared thoughts of corruption of Aam Aadmi Party and also shared stage events for Bharatiya Janata Party. These anti-party activities were brought to the notice of the Speaker and he was expelled from the party. He officially joined Bharatiya Janta Party after a couple of weeks in August 2019.

Kapil Mishra – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. His fight against exploitation of Yamuna and encroachment on Yamuna River bed at various points of time are worth mentioning.

2. He participated in several protests against the exploitation of common man in the name of “Growth and Development”.

3. He was one among the youth leaders who highlighted various scams associated with Commonwealth Games 2010 held in New Delhi.
