Monsoon – the most romantic season shown in Bollywood films. Obviously it’s lovely pictured on big screen as well. In my previous article, I have listed a few among the best rain songs of Lata Mangeshkar.
Nayana Barse, Nainon Mein Badra Chaye, Haye Yeh Majboori, O Sajna, Geela Geela Pani, Mere Khwabom Mein, Rhim Jhim Gire, Paani Paani Re ….. What about other singers of Bollywood? Singers like Alka Yagnik, Shreya Ghosal and Sunidhi Chauhan also own a few lovely rain songs. It’s not an easy task to find and list the most popular rain songs sung by female singers. It’s only my attempt, and I may add many more songs to the list later.
Barso Re Mekha Re of Guru: It’s one of the lovely rain songs for a Bollywood film, and it was pictured on the Bollywood diva, Aishwarya Rai. The song was shot at Athirapally rainfalls of Kerala and sung by Shreya Ghosal. The song was composed by none other than A. R. Rahman, and was very lovely pictured.
Bhage Re Mann of Chameli: The movie gave Kareena Kapoor a big break to her acting career, and this particular rain song sync liped by Sunidhi Chauhan is one among the best. Kareena looked awesome in the red sari.
Taal Se Taal Mila of Taal: This lovely title track from the movie Taal was pictured on Aishwarya Rai, and sung by Alka Yagnik. All the songs of this album were huge chartbusters for the year 1999, and A. R. Rahman won Filmfare award for best music composition for this film.
Bole Re Pappi Hara of Guddi: The song gave playback singer Vani Jayaram a big break to Bollywood, though she later concentrated on to south Indian films. Jaya Bhaduri also looked lovely in this beautiful raga based song. Vasant Desai composed the song based on the rag Mian Ki Malhar created by Tansen. Vani received numerous music awards for this single song.
Boondom Se Baatein of Thakshak: This romantic solo was sung by Sujatha Trivedi and extremely melodious. The song was composed by A. R. Rahman.
Silsila Yeh Chaahat Ka of Devdas: This song is not purely a monsoon song, but rain plays a part in it. This dance sequence featuring lovely Aishwarya was composed by Ismail Darbar and sung by Shreya Ghoshal.
Meri Jaan Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho of Anubhav: Swan song of the legendary singer Geeta Dutt, this rain song was filmed on Sanjeev Kumar and Tanuja who played a couple on screen. The song was composed by one less-known composer Kanu Roy who used only 4 instruments for the whole recordings of 5 songs. No other composer might have used Vibrophone in a better way than Kanu Roy for a Bollywood song. Gulzar penned lyrics, a new comer to industry then. Read more:
