Kannaa aaromalunnee kannaa
Aniyoo thirumaarilaniyoo njaan kortha
Kanakaambaramaala….
Kanna…
Dearest Aromalunni Kanna…
Please wear, in your royal chest,
The crossandra garland made by me
Kannaa aaromalunnee kannaa

Kanna…
Dearest Aromalunni Kanna…
Please wear, in your royal chest,
The crossandra garland made by me
Kanna…..
Dheerasameeraniloode
Yamunaa theera kudeerathiloode
Through a gentle breeze
Through the banks of the Yamuna
Vrushchikamaasanilaavoli pooshiya vrindaavanikayiloode
Through the Vrindavan garden,
Painted with the moonlight of the *Vrishchikam month,
Ee dwarakaapuri thedi varunnavalaaro…. Neeyaaro (M)
Who is this girl coming
In search of Dwaraka,
Who are you?
Gomedakamanimuthukal chinniya govarddhanathin madiyil
In the lap of Govardhana
Where the beads of Hessonite gems are scattered
Kodi janmangalil nin kuzhal vilikettodivannaval njaan –
Ninte gopakanyaka njaan (F)
I am the one,
In millions of births,
Came running
Listening to your flute.
I am the gopi of yours
Raasavilasini raadha ente raakaa shashimukhi raadha
Someone who enjoys Rasa dance,
My Radha
The one with the face of the moon.
Enne vikaaravimohithanaakkiya vrindaavanathile raadha
The Radha of Vrindavan
Who made me desire love & emotions.
Ee raajasadanam nee alankarikkoo priya raadhe (M)
Decorate this royal house
Dear Radha…
Kannaa aaromalunnee kannaa
Aniyoo thirumaarilaniyoo njaan kortha
Kanakaambaramaala….
Kannaa….. (F)
Kanna…
Dearest Aromalunni Kanna…
Please wear, in your royal chest,
The crossandra garland made by me
Kanna…..
Venmathikalayude ponnaabharanam chaarthi (M)
Adorning the golden ornaments of the crescent moon
Manmadha pushpasharangal maaril vidarthi (F)
Blossoming the flower arrows of cupid in the bosom
Innum nruthanishaasadanathil varaarundallo (M)
You come every night on the dance stage
Enne madaalasayaakkaarulla manohara raathri (F)
The beautiful night that makes me intoxicated
Jalatharangathaalam (M)
The rhythm of Jal Tharang
Yamunaathada mrudanga melam (F)
The music of the mridanga on the banks of the Yamuna
Neelakkadambinnilathaalam
Ilam peeli vidarthum mayilaattam (M)
*Ilathaalam of blue kadamb flower
The dance of the peacock, spreading tender feathers
Kannaa nin kaananamuralee kalanaadam, enne
Orapsara narthakiyaakkiya geetham (F)
Kanna, the sweet voice of your wild flute
The song that transformed me into a celestial dancer
Ormmayundo ormmayundo ormmayundo (M)
Do you remember?
Do you remember?
Do you remember?
Kannaa aaromalunnee kannaa
Aniyoo thirumaarilaniyoo njaan kortha
Kanakaambaramaala….
Kannaa….. (F)
Kanna…
Dearest Aromalunni Kanna…
Please wear, in your royal chest,
The crossandra garland made by me
Kanna…..

A brief note on Vijayasree – The heroine of this song, known as the Marilyn Monroe of Malayalam, had a short but glorious career in the first half of the 1970s. Her pairing with evergreen hero Prem Nazir was immensely popular, and fans admired her beauty. No other actress had such a string of hits in such a short span. The only exception may be Manju Warrier.
65 films in 4 or 5 yrs! She committed suicide at the age of 21 at the peak of her career & a few movies were released posthumously. Her death is still a controversy – whether suicide or murder. As per rumours, while shooting for a bathing scene in a movie, a wardrobe malfunction occurred & filmmakers who shot her zoomed video later used it to blackmail her. That’s why she committed suicide.
One of her close friends from the film industry, a co-actress, clarifies that Vijayashree can never commit suicide. In fact, she had one secret lover whom she wanted to get married. What’s the truth, who knows!!! Her death is still a mystery.
