fish kaaya koott or Kaaya Puzhungiyath

Ingredients for Kaaya Puzhungiyath:

  1. Raw plantain – 3 
  2. Chilli powder – 1 small spoon
    Turmeric powder – 1 small spoon
    Salt – As needed 
  3. Thick fish pieces – ¼ kg 
  4. Grated coconut – ½ portion
    Fennel – 1 small spoon
    Garlic – 3 cloves, chopped 
  5. Curry leaves – 2 sprigs 

How to prepare Kaaya Puzhungiyath?

  1. Cut the raw plantains lengthwise into two and then slice them thinly. Wash and drain well. 
  2. Add the ingredients listed under section 2, along with enough water, and cook. 
  3. When it is half-cooked, add the fish pieces and cook well. 
  4. Grind the ingredients listed under section 4 into a fine paste and add to the mixture. Stir well. 
  5. When it starts to boil, add curry leaves and cook until the gravy thickens to the desired consistency.
