Darshana Rajendran – ‘Bawra Mann’ girl of Mayaanadhi

Darshana Rajendran is a film actress, dubbing artist and storyteller, who predominantly works in Malayalam and Tamil entertainment field. She also owns more than three years of experience in English theatre in Chennai. Nasriya’s friend in Koode and Aishwarya Lekshmi’s friend in Mayanadhi are her noted works in Malayalam cinema. Her parallel lead role in Hridayam was appreciated. She played Vishal’s sister in Irumbuthire and also played a brief role in Kavan. Till now she has done more than 15 films, and her acting 2020 release, C U Soon was also well received. She is also a singer.

Darshana Rajendran was brought up in Saudi Arabia, where she studied till 8th standard. Her father Rajendran formerly worked as British Councillor, and her mother Neeraja was a dance teacher before they moved back to India. Her mother also works in films, doing brief roles, while her younger sister Bhavana works in theatre at Bangalore. Darshana Rajendran’s entry to theatre and films was just co-incident. After pursuing her Master’s degree in London, when she took job at Institute of financial management and research at Chennai, she got into theatre, and it paved her way to films as well. When she got active with different theatre troupes she resigned her job. Now she loves both theatre and films and wants to explore more about film industry. ‘A Very Normal Family’ is her recent play.

Darshana Rajendran – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. Malayalam flick ‘John Paul Vathil Thurakkunnu’ was her debut flick. It was followed by two Tamil films – Kavan and Irumbu Thirai before she bagged a handful of Malayalam projects.

2. Her mother who was seen as Deepak’s mother in Rakshadhikari Baiju shared screen space with Darshana for Virus.

3. She got her role in Mayanadhi through Rima Kalingal, whom she knew earlier. She auditioned for the role of friend and played the role of Darshana, thus sharing the real name with her character.

4. She has one friend Sathyajith in theatre circle, who knows about her singing talents. He suggested her do auditions for a leading English theatre group at Chennai, and she got it.

5. She sang the cover version of Bollywood song ‘Bawra Mann Dekhne Chala Ek Sapna’ for the movie, Mayaanadhi which was well received. She used to sing this song frequently during her college days when her friends ask her to sing.

6. Apart from theatre she conducts story telling workshops for kids, through which she earned a huge fan base and majority of them are kids.

7. Storytelling, Dance, Carnatic music, Western music, Acting – She has tried a bit of everything.
