TE3N – Amitabh at his best in this gripping thriller

Amitabh has been a part of several thrillers in the recent times, and he essaying lead roles in two revenge sagas released in 2016 – Waazir and TE3N. Over the years the superstar has transformed him to a natural actor willing to experiment with a wide range of roles, and in this movie, he played the role of a 70-year old helpless grandfather who losses his single grandchild in a kidnapping incident. The whole film is all about how with less-known clues, he travels 8 years backward and brings the culprit in front of police and media.

Amitabh played an ordinary middle-class man with ease and through this brilliant performance he has given yet another wonderful performance as an actor. Over the years, audience has got less opportunity to see the star essaying an ordinary man role without any sharp dialogues or superstar image. At any point of time, the movie was not found dragging, and the supporting actors – Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Vidya Balan delivered good performance of top-notch.

The movie was scripted and directed by Ribhu Dasgupta, and inspired from a South Korean film Montage. But through the carefully written script, the director gave it a ‘Bengali’ feel, and most recently too Amitabh Bachchan played a Bengali character for his National award winning performance – Piku.

I really liked the way the whole script was woven, a mix of flashbacks and incidents of present time with a lot of illusions creating a lot of suspense till the end. In fact in the second half of the film, though the search and findings of the real culprit are already occurred events, it was nicely blend with present events generating more suspense to the thriller which has rarely occurred on Bollywood screen. I could say the director has succeeded in those experiments.

For the movie, I would like to give 3.5 to 4 stars out of 5, especially for the brilliant script and powerful performance of Bachchan. One of the best thrillers in the recent times, the movie exclusively belongs to Big B.

The movie also shares some similarities with another revenge saga of Big B in 2016 Click Here
