*Thenkasi, a place in Tamil Nadu. Shobana plays a Thenkasi girl, married to Jayaram, but brought home as a servant. Many Tamil terms were used in the song, like Thenkasi, Kaveri river etc.
Following the blockbuster success of Melepparampil Aanveedu in 1993, Priyadarshan made a movie the following year using the same thread. The movie titled Thenmavinkombathu was also a blockbuster. Interestingly in this movie too, Shobana played the female lead opposite Mohanlal, & he brings his lover as a maid to his home. The films – Melepparampil Aanveedu and Thenmavinkombathu are always counted among the blockbuster hits of Shobana. Priyadarshan later remade the film in Hindi as Saat rang ke sapne, which flopped at the box office. The movie starred Juhi Chawla, Aravind Swamy, and Anupam Kher in lead roles.
