Ilayada is usually prepared using banana leaves. Flour is spread inside the banana leaf as a thin layer and then sealed well. Then it’s immersed in boiling water and cooked well. In Rava Ilayada, rava/sooji/semolina is used to make the batter and fill the banana leaf. Let me tell you the procedure. Rava is available in 2 forms – normal or roasted. Ingredients for Rava Ilayada:

  1. Rava – ½ kg
  2. Scraped coconut – 1
  3. Sugar – as required
  4. Ghee – a little

How to prepare Rava Ilayada?

  1. Add water to rava and soak for 15 minutes. The batter should be thick enough to spread on the banana leaf.
  2. Mix coconut and sugar.
  3. Show the banana leaf to flame to make it soft, and then apply a little ghee on it.
  4. Then spread rava batter on a banana leaf to form a thin layer. Spread the coconut-sugar mixture on its top.
  5. Then fold the banana leaf and steam it in an idli maker or steamer for 15 minutes and serve.
