Thari Kachiyath is a traditional Kerala dish, usually prepared in Christian homes of mid-Kerala during Christmas, Easter, and family gatherings. It belongs to Kerala home cooking, especially among Christian and Syrian Christian communities in Central Kerala (e.g., Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur). Semolina, sugar, and milk are the key ingredients, and this dessert is similar to a pudding. Cardamom, shallots, cashews, and raisins are other ingredients commonly used in its preparation, and sometimes sugar is replaced with a jaggery solution.

Thari in Malayalam means Granules (not finely ground particles), and Semolina is not a fine flour, which makes it a perfect fit. Kachiyath means boiled. That’s how the name of this traditional Kerala dish is coined.
