T. P. Radhamani – South Indian actress of yesterdays best known for character roles
T. P. Radhamani was a south Indian actress who played brief roles on screen in old movies. She was active in Malayalam and Tamil movies in the 1970s during her young days. She has also appeared in a few Hindi movies. She shared screen space with yesterday stars like Sathyan and Prem Nazir and actors of today like Mammootty, Kamal Hassan, Mohanlal etc. She played a crucial role in G. Aravindan’s National award winning movie – Utharayanam, released in 1975. It was director’s debut movie too.
T. P. Radhamani hailed from Shoranur of Palakkad district, Kerala. She started her acting career at the age of 14. Ezhu Raatrikal in 1968 was her debut Malayalam flick. As an actress some of her noted works in Malayalam movies include – Sindoora Cheppu, Utharayanam, Anantha Shayanam, Udayam, Swapnam, Periyaar, Ladies Hostel, Kodiyettam, Abhayam, Jala Kanyaka, Saundaryam, Ezhu Rathrikal, Oridath, Picnic, Romeo, Nritasala, Sati, Chemparathi, Veendum Prabhatam, Mudra, Aranyakam, Hitler etc. Oru Yathra Mozhi was her last work in Malayalam. She was last seen in 2018 Tamil movie, ‘Mannar Vakaiyaara’.
Born in Shoranur, Kerala, T. P. Radhamani spent her last days in Vadapalani, Chennai. She has been battling with cancer for past 1.5 years and has been facing financial troubles for treatment. She also sought public help through crowd funding organization Milaap while she was undergoing 4th stage lung cancer. T. P. Radhamani passed away on October 20, 2019. She was survived by her husband Kanakayyalal and one son.
