Suttum Vizhi Song from Gajini (Tamil) – Lyrics in English with Translation

Suttum Vizhi Song lyrics

Suttum Vizhi Sudare Suttum Vizhi Sudare

En Ulagam Unnai Sutruthe

The burning eyes giving light

The burning eyes giving light

My world revolves around you

Sattai Payyil Un Panam Thottu Thottu Urasa

En Ithayam Patri Kolluthey

When your photo rubs against my shirt pocket

My heart is going out

Un Vizhiyil Vizhunden Vinveliyil Paranthen

Kanvizhithu Soppanam Kandaen

Unnalae Kanvizhithu Soppanam Kandaen

I fell into your eyes

Have flown out of the earth

And started dreaming with open eyes,

Because of you

Started dreaming with open eyes

Suttum Vizhi Sudare Suttum Vizhi Sudare

En Ulagam Unnai Sutruthe

The burning eyes giving light

The burning eyes giving light

My world revolves around you

Sattai Payyil Un Panam Thottu Thottu Urasa

En Ithayam Patri Kolluthey

When your photo rubs against my shirt pocket

My heart is going out

Un Vizhiyil Vizhunden Vinveliyil Paranthen

Kanvizhithu Soppanam Kandaen

Unnalae Kanvizhithu Soppanam Kandaen (M)

I fell into your eyes

Have flown out of the earth

And started dreaming with open eyes,

Because of you

Started dreaming with open eyes

Mellinam Marbil Kanden, Vallinam Vizhiyil Kanden

Edayinam Thedi Alai Endru (M)

Have seen *Mellinam in your heart

Have seen *Vallinam in your eyes

Haven’t searched *Idayinam

Thookathil Ularal Konden, Thooralil Virumbi Ninraen

Thumbal Vanthaal Un Ninaivai Konden (F)

Have blabbered in sleep

Stood desiring in the drizzle

While sneezing,

Your thoughts came to mind

Karupu Vellai Pookal Unda

Un Kannil Naan Kandaen Un Kangal

Vandai Unnum Pookal Endraen

Un Kangal

Vandai Unnum Pookal Endraen (M)

Are there flowers in black & white?

I have seen in your eyes

Your eyes are flowers,

Eating bees

Suttum Vizhi Sudare Suttum Vizhi Sudare

En Ulagam Unnai Sutruthe

The burning eyes giving light

The burning eyes giving light

My world revolves around you

Sattai Payyil Un Panam Thottu Thottu Urasa

En Ithayam Patri Kolluthey

When your photo rubs against my shirt pocket

My heart is going out

Un Vizhiyil Vizhunden Vinveliyil Paranthen

Kanvizhithu Soppanam Kandaen

Unnalae Kanvizhithu Soppanam Kandaen (F)

I fell into your eyes

Have flown out of earth

And started dreaming with open eyes,

Because of you

Started dreaming with open eyes

Maramkotthi Paravai Ondru,

Manam Kothi Ponathu Endru

Vudal Muthal Vuyir Varai Thanthen (F)

One woodpecker bird

Is pecking away at my heart

Has given me

Its body to life (everything)

Thee Indri Thirium Indri, Thaegangal Erium Endru

Indru Thane Naanum Kandu Konden (M)

Without fire, without wick

Bodies can burn

Today only I came to know

Mazhai Azhaga Veyil Azhaga,

Is rain beautiful?

Is sunlight beautiful?

Konjum Pothu Mazhai Azhagu, Kanna Nee

Kobapattal Veyil Azhagu

Kanna Nee, Kobapattal Veyil Azhagu (F)

When you talk sweetly, it’s beautiful like rain

Dear……

If you turn angry, it’s beautiful like sunlight

Suttum Vizhi Sudare Suttum Vizhi Sudare

En Ulagam Unnai Sutruthe

The burning eyes giving light

The burning eyes giving light

My world revolves around you

Sattai Payyil Un Panam Thottu Thottu Urasa

En Ithayam Patri Kolluthey (M)

When your photo rubs against my shirt pocket

My heart is going out

Un Vizhiyil Vizhunden Vinveliyil Paranthen

Kanvizhithu Soppanam Kandaen

Unnalae Kanvizhithu Soppanam Kandaen

Kanvizhithu Soppanam Kandaen

Unnalae Kanvizhithu Soppanam Kandaen (F)

I fell into your eyes

Have flown out of the earth

And started dreaming with open eyes,

Because of you,

Started dreaming with open eyes

Some interesting facts about the song

There are 3 interesting words in the 1st Antara, which I had to google to understand the meaning: Mellinam, Vallinam and Idaiyinam. All words are related to the Tamil alphabet.

Vallinam – Ka, Cha, Da, Tha, Pa, Ra

Mellinam – Nga, Nya, Na(ण), Na/Na (Tamil has 2 different alphabets, unlike Malayalam & Hindi)

Idaiyinam – Ya, Ra, Va, Zha, La/La

La/la (Tamil/Malayalam has 2 different alphabets, unlike Hindi)

Zha – the only Tamil/Malayalam alphabet that can’t be written or pronounced in Hindi.

In the second Antara, there is one line, Vudal Muthal Vuyir Varai Thanthen, which I translated as “Has given me its body to life (everything)”….. It also means a combination of all letters of the Tamil language. So, not sure what the lyricist was saying! Both interpretations are right. Tamil is a very beautiful language; if we look into old classic Tamil, we only see it in songs & poems.
