Stephy Zaviour – Costume Designer turned Filmmaker of Mollywood
Stephy Zaviour is a costume designer associated with Malayalam film industry, who has completed over 65 films by the year 2021, apart from a few TV shows. In 2023 she marked her impressive debut as a film director through the good feel film, Madhura Manohara Moham. Lord Livingstone 7000 Kandi, The Great Father, Guppy, Angamaly Diaries, Aadujeevitham, Ishq, Joseph, Queen and Ezra are some of her best works in Malayalam cinema as a costume designer. Her work in the movie Guppy earned her the prestigious Kerala State Award for Costume Designer.
Stephy Zaviour started her professional life at the age of 23
Stephy Zaviour was born on 20 June 1992 in Mananthavady of Wyanad district, Kerala. She completed her schooling from Kallody and graduation in fashion technology from K.L.E. Society’s S. Nijalingappa College, Bangalore. Since childhood, her ambition was to get into the film industry. Soon after graduation, she shifted to Kochi to start off as a costume designer.
She started off with ad films. Lukka Chuppi was her debut work as a costume designer and within two years, she completed around 16 films. She worked with almost all leading actors by the age she reached 25.
She turned director with the movie ‘Madhura Manohara Moham’
The family drama with comic elements, starring Bindu Panicker, Rajisha Vijayan, Saiju Kurup, Sharafudheen, and Vijayaraghavan marked her impressive debut as a film director and film became a box office hit. When she joined film industry, directing a film was never in her thoughts. But while spending more time in film sets as a part of her profession, she got curious with direction as well. It was while doing Ezra, she determined to become a film director. It took 5 years of hard work to fulfil her dream as a filmmaker. Now she wants to carry both these profiles together.
Stephy Zaviour – Some interesting and less-known facts
1. When Stephy won prestigious Kerala State Award for Costume Designer in 2016, it was for the first time the award went to Wayanad.
2. She was also the youngest costumer in M-town who has received the Kerala State Award for Costume Designer.
3. She has designed costumes for many of Prithviraj projects like Aadujeevitham, Ezra, Jana Gana Mana etc.
4. The movie ‘Titanic’ which she watched from a local theatre influenced her a lot to choose fashion and costume designing. She got attracted to the costumes of Rose.
