Movie Trivia & Song Situation
In the song (from the 1999 film), the function is shown as being organised to congratulate Prakash Mathew, an upcoming singer who has won the TV singing reality show Meri Awaaz Suno. In reality, India’s first-ever singing reality show, Meri Awaaz Suno, was conducted by Doordarshan in 1996. The male winner was Pradeep Somasundaram from Thrissur, a Malayali, while the female winner was Sunidhi Chauhan, who later went on to become one of the leading female playback singers in Hindi cinema.
*Niram was remade in Hindi as Tujhe Meri Kasam, which marked the Bollywood debut of Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza. They started dating and later got married.
