Oditta Koottala Mahavishnu Temple – Where deity faces south

Oditta Koottala

This is one of the few Vishnu temples in Kerala where the deity faces south. It is said that the name “Koottaala” originated from the fact that people used to gather here to discuss public issues. In olden times, only very few places were granted permission for grazing cattle. This temple is believed to be one of the first places in the area to receive such permission. That’s how the name “Odittu Koottaala” came into use. The temple and the region once held significant cultural influence.
