Top 10 electrifying romantic rain songs of Bollywood
“Kabhi jo badal barse” featuring Sunny Leone is one of the best romantic rain songs of Bollywood in the recent times. Songs pictured in rain are regarded as very hot and romantic, and over the years its popularity has only increased. It’s not easy to compare popular rain songs of Bollywood belonging to different eras. So I would like to list 10 best romantic songs, though not as countdown, and ‘rain’ definitely played a significant role. In this list, I would like to add only romantic songs giving preference to duets.
Let me start with the black & white era of 1950s. The era is known for the sizzling chemistry of the popular onscreen couple Raj Kapoor and Nargis, and definitely the song, Pyaar hua iqraar hua of Shree 420 (1955) can never miss my list. Definitely it’s one of the most beautifully picturized rain songs of Bollywood and is still popular. It’s the most popular romantic rain song of 1950’s also. Next song that appears in my list belongs to the popular onscreen and off-screen couple – Kishore Kumar and Madhubala. Ek ladki bheegi bhaagi si of Chalti ka naam gadi includes some comedy elements as well.
The era of 1970s also witnessed a few highly romantic rain songs. Bheegi bheegi raatom mein from Ajnabee featuring Rajesh Khanna and Zeenat Aman definitely needs special mention. The sizzling song has later become so popular through its remixed version as well. Though rain is not shown in Bollywood’s one of the best sensuous songs – Roop tera mastana of Aaradhana, thunder and lightning sound give the ‘rain’ effect for the song shot in one camera shot. The song belongs to late 1960s. ‘Rhimjim gire saawan’ from the movie Manzil is one among the best romantic songs pictured on Amitabh Bachchan. This versatile actor is not quite comfortable with romantic movies, and if taken the list of his best romantic songs ever, Rhimjim gire saawan can never be excluded.
Now let me come to the era of 1980s, the era known for fast tracks and disco numbers. Aaj rapat jaayen of Namak Halal (1982) featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Smita Patel is one of the unusual songs of Bollywood. Smita known for her de-glamorous avatar was seen an entirely different avatar for this song. Lagee aag sawan ki from the romantic movie – Chandini was one of the best songs for the year 1989. Suresh Wadkar’s voice and Juhi Chawla’s screen appearance added extra flavours to the song.
Now let me come to the era of 1990s, when rain songs became a part of almost all Bollywood movies. Yet no song could match the effect of Tip Tip Barsa Pani of Mohra (1994). It’s one of the extremely hot and sizzling songs ever pictured on Indian screen and the song featured Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon, a time when the actors dated for a brief while. Rhim Jhim Rhim Jhim of 1942 A love story, released the same year is a cute rain song pictured on the cute couple Anil Kapoor and Manisha Koirala. Jo haal dil ka of Sarfarosh (1999) also finds place in my list.
I have added 10 songs to my list. Yet I would like to mention a few more songs – Koi Ladki Hai from Dil To Pagal Hai, Paigaam Laaya Saawan of Lakeer, Aankhom se tune of Ghulam, Kyon Bequdi Se Jhaayi Hai from Hum Ho Gaye Aapke, Kaate Nahi Kat te of Mr. India, Saasom ko saasom mein from Hum Tum, Badal Yu Garajta from Betaab, Sawan Barse Tarse from Dahek, Yeh Saazish Hai from Fanaa, Ab Ke Sawan from Jaise To Taise, Laga Laga Prem Rog of Meine Pyar Kyon Kiya etc.
