Subhamita Banerjee – Popular Bengali Singer

Subhamita Banerjee is a Bengali playback singer who has also done Modern Bengali Songs and Ghazals. She was a winner of the reality show, Sa Theke Sa, which gave her a major break to her singing career. She is mostly associated with television serials apart from a few film songs, comprising a total count of more than 200 belonging to both. She completed a hat-trick in 2008 after winning Best Female Singer Award in Tele-Serial Category for three continuous years. Most of her albums were released by Sagarika Music which includes – Ichhe Paari, Brishti Paye Paye, Gopano Kathati, Jodi Bondhu Hao, Poila Nambar, Moner Hodish etc.

Subhamita Banerjee was born into a musical family in Malda, West Bengal. She learnt first lessons of music from her father Joshoda Dulal Das, a classical vocalist. Later she trained in Jaipur Gwalior and Kirana of Hindustani vocals under different gurus, followed by Banaras tradition of Purab Ang Thumri, Dadra, Chaiti and Kajri under Purnima Chowdhury. Throughout her academic years she received scholarships which helped her to learn more about music. She completed Master’s in English literature. After that she turned a full-fledged singer.

1. She took training in Jaipur Gwalior tradition from Ulhas Kashalkar.

2. She won HMV Golden Talent Contest in 1993, and many other singing competitions.

3. Ace singer-composer Nachiketa played an important role in bringing out her talents.
