Niharika Khan – Female costume designer of Bollywood

Niharika Khan is a Bollywood costume designer best known for the works of The Dirty Picture (2011) and Band Baaja Baaraat (2010). Her brother Arjun Bhasin is also a successful costume designer of Bollywood and international projects. She is married to popular actor of small screen, Ayub Khan, Dilip Kumar’s nephew. Niharika received National Film Awards and Filmfare awards for best costume designer for The Dirty Picture. Band Baaja Baaraat and The Dirty Picture earned her IIFA awards in a row since 2010.

Niharika hails from Jamshedpur and has Parsi and Punjabi background. Her maiden name is Niharika Bhasin. She took her higher studies from US. Her Bollywood career began with Khoya Khoya Chand (2007). Rock On released the following year earned her recognition for the first time. Bhoothnath, The Lunch Box, Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, Ajab Gazabb Love, Inkaar, Chashme Baddoor, Karthik Calling Karthik, Shivaay, Fan, Rang Rasiya, Ungli, Bombay Velvet, Rowdy Rathore, Heroine, Kai Po Che!, Delhi Belly etc are a few more works.

Niharika Khan – Some interesting facts

1. She is the daughter-in-law of yesterday actors – Begum Para and Nasir Khan (Dilp Kumar’s younger brother). Thus she is related to Dilip Kumar and Saira Bhanu.

2. She is also related to Bollywood actress Amrita Singh and her family through her marriage with Ayub Khan.

3. She and Ayub divorced their spouses to marry each other. They knew each other since college days, and broke their first marriage to tie the knot. They got separated when Niharika went to US and they met after 10 years. When their respective marriages where in trouble, they decided to give their relation a second chance.

4. Her brother got into this field at a young age in the 1990s, and later Niharika too got into same field after earning experiences from other fields. Her style is entirely different from her brother’s contemporary style. 

5. Her film debut happened with Khoya Khoya Chand when filmmakers couldn’t afford Arjun Bhasin. 

6. Niharika is 5 years elder to Arjun, but junior to him in costume designing profession.
