Lin Laishram – Model and actress from Manipur

Lin Laishram is a successful model from Manipur, who has played brief roles in Bollywood films. She is an international model, who has worked in New York with renowned photographers, make-up artistes and stylists. Apart from being a successful ramp model, she also appears in print ads for various brands. She is also an entrepreneur who owns a jewellery brand, Shamooo Sana. She has been featured as Kingfisher calendar girl, and also in several TV and print ads.

Lin Laishram was born and brought up in Imphal, Manipur. She was born in 1985 to an art enthusiast, associated with courtyard theatre. She shifted to Mumbai as Manipur was not a safe place to live those days, and lived with her brother. While studying at Sophia College, someone spotted her with long hair and suggested her to join modelling industry. Thus she is an accidental model. However after joining modelling industry, she cut her hair short. It happened when she became only student from her college to get selected for an ad campaign & photo shoot for L’Oreal, because of her lengthy hair. But her hair was cut shot for photo shoot, which she had to bear for next three months.

As an actress she started off with theatre, and “Pillars of Community” was her first stage play. Om Shanti Om marked her screen debut in 2007, where she played the cameo role of Shah Rukh Khan’s friend. Umrika, Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola, Hat-trick, Rangoon etc are some of her acting appearances in brief roles. She also had a successful career in modelling during her stay in New York.

Lin Laishram – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. As a child she was interested in psychology and imagined that she would become a psychologist in future.

2. Apart from modelling she is also associated with sports. An accident crushed her dreams in sports.

3. She is trained in archery from Tata Archery academy in Jamshedpur. She was a Junior National Champion in 1998 in National Championship held in Chandigarh.

4. She was initially approached by Omung Kumar for the lead role in Mary Kom which finally went to Priyanka Chopra. Later she played the character role Bem-Bem in the film.

5. She was the first model from Manipur to don a swimsuit on national television. It led to controversies.

6. She is an avid traveller.

7. She attended a dance school in Manipur for two years. As she was brought up in a conservative society where only academics and studies were promoted, she didn’t get encouragement for her artistic efforts even from parents and had to leave dance classes.

8. She has worked with Naseeruddin Shah’s theatre group, Rangbaaz, and has studied acting at Stella Adler Studio of acting while at New York. Her association with Rangbaaz gave her a new career direction. 

9. At the beginning of her career she has served as brand ambassador of Ozuru, a leading diamond brand in India.

10. She has done ramp walks in India, and big cities like New York, Toronto and Chicago.

11. In 2016 there were rumours that she was dating Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda. Rumours died soon.
