Chirag Paswan – Indian politician and former Bollywood actor
Chirag Paswan is a two-term parliamentarian and politician from Khagaria, Bihar, belonging to Lok Janshakti Party, which has formed an alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party. He is the son of prominent politician and union minister Ram Vilas Paswan. He has been serving as the MP of Jamui constituency of Bihar since 2014. Chirag Paswan started his professional career as an actor, playing the male lead opposite Kangana Ranaut in 2011 Bollywood film, Miley Naa Miley Hum. After the commercial failure of the movie, he switched to politics.
Chirag Paswan was born into a strong political family of Bihar in 1983. After completing her Engineering in Computer science, he pursued a career in Bollywood in 2011. Miley Naa Miley Hum is the only film in which he acted. After that he joined politics at a time when the party was going through a rough phase. In 2009 elections, his party failed to get any Lok Sabha seat, and in 2010 state assembly elections, it could score just three seats. He later worked hard to regain some of the lost power in Bihar, with major opposition from Lalu Prasad Yadav’s sons. In 2014 general elections he defeated Sudhansu Shekhar Bhaskar of Rashtriya Janata Dal by over 85,000 votes to become a parliamentarian. In 2019 general elections, he retained the seat.
Chirag Paswan – Some interesting and less-known facts
1. For his debut film, he was nominated at Stardust Awards 2012 in ‘Superstar of Tomorrow – Male’ category.
2. He started Chirag ka Rojgar – an NGO which provides job for unemployed youth of Bihar.
3. He was 31 years old when he became parliamentarian for the first time.
4. Soon after entering politics Chirag Paswan managed to find reasons behind his party’s failure and then he became instrumental in facilitating his father’s alliance with BJP.
5. As a young leader, he is known for excellent public speaking skills and great hard working habits.
6. He is one of the brightest ‘political’ sons from Bihar with great career ahead.
