Make your garden natural with a water source
A garden with a water source – it’s something like a treat to our eyes. It makes our garden natural and something very close or related to nature. Water source may be of any type – an artificial stream that runs through the garden from one end to another with a few lilies and fishes or it could be a simple pond with a fountain in the centre. No doubt, if you use a little creativity it’s possible for you, without the help of an architect to design something in your green garden with your own finger prints. So, through this column let me tell you how to construct a water body in your garden, its advantages and maintenance problems.
You can create a pond in your garden with cheap asbestos or expensive concrete. It’s not at all significant, if it’s not decorated and maintained properly. Periodic cleaning, enough sunlight, free of shady trees and suitable plumbing and electric arrangements – all these facts are needed in required proportions to keep a water body neat and tidy in your courtyard. If you provide a few fishes, algae, lotus and blue lilies, it glorifies your garden like a wonder world. Fish varieties like guppy can purify your pond by eating the larvae too.
Pebbles, stone path that guides you to the stream or pond, a few lighting arrangements or fountain and two bamboo chairs – it’s enough to make a wonderful setting near your artificial lake side! You can plant a few flowering plants too to bring greenery and fragrance around. One important thing to note – the pond should be oxygenated well before you add water and living beings in your water pond. You can choose any shape for your pond that fits your imagination. You can add your creativity as well. But it should never be below the normal water/drainage level of that area. Otherwise during rainy season, water along with mud and impurities may flush inside easily.
Create a natural pool in your garden to add beauty to greenery. But there is a hidden danger as well, particularly if infants are there in home. If so, cover your pond with lids made of iron bars, as a sort of precaution. You can plant a few flowering plants around to bring fragrance to your garden.
