Ishtamallada Song from Swapnakoodu – Lyrics in English with Translation
While thinking of translating some fun song, Ishtamallada Song from Swapnakoodu featuring Prithviraj & Meera Jasmine came into mind. To get the real fun of the song, you need to know the language. Yet I shall try maximum. ‘Mon’ & ‘Mol’ literally means son & daughter in the language, yet used as a fun context here. We can see people using ‘Beta/Beti’ in the same fun context in Hindi chats/conversations too.
Song situation:
Prithviraj is a flirt, but seriously loves Meera & always plays fun with her. She, though likes him, never reciprocates it & always behave rude towards him. However in this fun song, she breaks his leg in the climax, though unintentionally. She uses terms like Eda, Poda to address him showing disrespect, yet there lies the real fun.

Lyrics: Kaithapram
Music: Mohan Sithara

End note: It’s a simple and fun filled song to listen, but very difficult to translate. While Meera Jasmin saying Ishtamallada Enikkishtamallada, it can be interpreted as ‘I don’t like you’ and ‘I don’t like it’, and both translations fit perfect into the context. Similarly, when Prithviraj replies Ishtamaanedo Eniikkishtamaanedo, it can be interpreted as ‘I like you’ and ‘I don’t like it’. Both are correct. Yet in both cases, ‘I don’t like it’ which completes with next line is more correct, if we look into the language.
*Athinu Vecha Vellam Maattedo – It is a twist of a common saying in Malayalam, which means – your trick won’t work, so change it. There is one similar saying in Hindi, “Yahan tera dal nahi galne wala” which means ‘Your pulse won’t cook here’.
Author’s Note: Translation has limitations. I accept!!!
