Gowri Krishnan – Malayalam small screen actress of ‘Pournami Thinkal’ fame

Gowri Krishnan is a popular television actress who appears in Malayalam soaps. She is best known for portraying lead roles – Krishnendu in Kana Kanmani and Pournami in Pournami Thinkal. She has appeared in more than a dozen soaps till now, mostly playing lead roles. She is married to serial director Manoj since November 2022. He directed her in the daily soap – Pournamithingal. Gowri is also a vlogger and social media influencer.

Gowri Krishnan spent most of time in Kottayam

Thiruvananthapuram is Gowri’s hometown. Her father worked in LIC as Development officer in Kottayam, and hence family shifted to Kottayam. She was born and brought up in Kottayam. She has one elder sister. After gaining good marks in Plus-2, she completed B.Com in private studies, yet couldn’t complete CA. For many reasons she couldn’t pursue higher studies.

She marked her screen debut with series, Aniyathi in 2015, where she played female lead. It was followed by her popular lead role in Kana Kanmani (2016). Mamangam, Seetha, Pranayini, Decemberile Aakasham, Ennu Swantham Jani, Nilavum Nakshathrangalaum etc are some of the shows in which she appeared later.

Pournami Thinkal gave her the big break in acting career

After working in Ennu Swantham Jani, she decided to take a break from acting. But she got a big opportunity through Pournami Thinkal, which proved to be her career breakthrough. Later she married the show’s director too.

When she was offered the role, she was working for Ennu Swantham Jani. She was brought in as the second substitution of the lead role of the show which was a failure till then. 70 episodes had already telecasted, and the makers wanted to complete 100 episodes for the show, when Gowri Krishnan was signed for the lead role. They continued the show as only an experiment, but amazingly the show completed 300 episodes and became a huge hit.

Ayyappa Saranam, Ennishtam, Kaiyethum Doorath etc are some of her shows later. She also participated as a contestant in a few reality shows, and also acted as mentor. She earned Kerala state award for best television actress for the show – Nilavum Nakshatrangalum, aired on Amrita TV>

Gowri’s love life

Gowri didn’t release any information about her groom even after engagement was announced. She kept her love life a secret. They didn’t tell about their personal life or posted any pictures in social media for a long time. Engagement announced in January 2022 was called off, as Manoj contacted with Covid, and her fans were curious to know who is it. They engaged the following month. Later Gowri and serial director Manoj got married in November same year.

Gowri Krishnan – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. She is an accidental actor and she never expect that she could act in serials – she confessed once in an interview.

2. Meera Muralidharan, her co-actress in her debut series, Aniyathi is her friend in real life too.

3. She made a brief appearance as Sreenivasan’s daughter in 2011 film, Traffic.

4. She was trolled by social media unnecessarily for her looks, makeup, attitude and even wedding blouse and not giving shy looks of a bride. She gave her powerful replies to trolls later.

5. Her role in Pournami Thinkal became so popular that her fans used to send special gifts for Onam & Vishu, and Vishu Kaineettam too.
