Ingredients for English Truffle:
1. Milk – 4 cups
2. Egg yolks – From 8 eggs
Sugar – ½ cup
Cornflour – 4 tablespoons
3. Vanilla extract – 1½ teaspoons
4. Butter – ½ cup
5. Tea cake – ½ kg
6. Cream – ¼ cup
Brandy – 1 tablespoon
7. Jam – 3 tablespoons
8. Strawberries (sliced) – 2 cups
Sugar – 1 tablespoon
Brandy – 1 tablespoon
Cream – ¼ cup
9. Whipping cream – 1½ cups
How to prepare English Truffle?
1. To prepare the custard, heat milk in a saucepan.
2. In a bowl, whisk together the second set of ingredients (egg yolks, sugar, and cornflour) until smooth.
3. Pour one or two ladlefuls of hot milk into the egg mixture, stir well, and pour it back into the saucepan. Cook on low flame, stirring continuously, until it thickens. Make sure it doesn’t stick to the bottom. Remove from heat and let it cool.
4. Place the cake in a dish and pour the mixture of the sixth set of ingredients (cream and brandy) over it to soak the cake.
5. Spread jam on top of the soaked cake and cut it into small pieces.
6. Mix the eighth set of ingredients (strawberries, sugar, brandy, and cream) and gently mash the strawberries with a spoon.
7. Prepare a trifle bowl or small glasses for layering.
8. Layer one-third each of the cake, strawberry mixture, and custard in that order, repeating to make three layers.
9. After layering, top with whipped cream, garnish with strawberries, and refrigerate to set before serving.
10. You can replace strawberries with fruits like pineapple, orange segments, or mango if desired.
