Chembin Thaalu Theeyal (Colocasia Stem Theeyal)
Ingredients for Chembin Thaalu Theeyal (Colocasia Stem Theeyal):
1. Colocasia Stem, cut into 1-inch pieces – 3 cups
2. Colocasia – 50 gm
3. Shallots – 100 gm
4. Green chillies split into two – 3
Salt – As required
Turmeric powder – ½ small spoon
5. Tamarind juice – As required
To prepare gravy:
6. Oil – 1 big spoon
Coconut scrapped – 1.5 cups
Red chillies – 4
Shallots chopped fine – 1 small spoon
Fenugreek – ¼ small spoon
Curry leaves – 1 stem
For tempering:
7. Oil – 1 small spoon
8. Fenugreek and mustard – ¼ small spoon each
9. Red chillies – 1
Curry leaves – 1 stem
How to prepare Chembin Thaalu Theeyal (Colocasia Stem Theeyal)?
1. Remove skin of colocasia and slice thin lengthwise.
2. Add colocasia stem and cut shallots to colocasia.
3. Add ingredients no: 4 along with sufficient water and cook the contents well.
4. Add tamarind juice.
5. Mix together ingredients no: 6 and fry till dark brown.
6. Make a fine paste and add to cooked pieces.
7. Heat oil and sputter mustard and fenugreek seeds.
8. Fry red chillies and curry leaves.
9. Add curry to oil and allow it to boil.
10. Take off from flame.
