Basbousa
Ingredients for Basbousa:
1. Sugar – 2.25 cups
Water – 1.5 cups
Lemon juice – 1 small spoon
2. Sugar – 1 cup
Butter – 2 big spoons, made soft
3. Eggs – 2
Vanilla essence – 1.5 small spoons
4. Fatty milk – 1 cup
5. Semolina – 2 cups
Baking powder – 1 big spoon
Baking soda – 1 big spoon
6. Almonds (after removing skin) – To decorate
7. Beaten cream – 1 big spoon (optional)
How to prepare Basbousa?
1. To prepare sugar syrup, mix together ingredients no: 1 and boil in a pan.
2. When it boils, reduce the flame and cook for 8-10 minutes.
3. Take the sugar syrup from flame and keep aside.
4. Pre-heat oven in 150 degree celsious.
5. Take a baking dish of dimension 9X12 inches, grease it and sprinkle flour.
6. Take butter and sugar in a bowl and beat it well.
7. Add eggs and vanilla essence, and mix the contents well.
8. Take semolina, baking powder and baking soda in another bowl and blend well.
9. Add this semolina mixture to egg-butter mixture slowly and mix well.
10. Add milk and mix slowly.
11. Pour this batter to greased dish and using a spoon, spread it well.
12. Make diagonal columns with diamond shape using a knife and place an almond each in each column.
13. Bake it for 25-20 minutes.
14. Pour the sugar syrup on its top uniformly. The cake should completely absorb the sugar syrup.
15. Allow it to cool for next 25-30 minutes and serve.
16. You can place cream on its top before you serve (optional).
