Ayalayum Kappayum (Mackerel and Tapioca)

Ingredients for Ayalayum Kappayum (Mackerel and Tapioca):

1. Dry Red Chilli Seeds – 1 Small Spoon 

    Shallots – 2 

    Garlic – 2 Cloves 

    Ginger – 1 Small Piece 

    Turmeric Powder – ½ Small Spoon 

2. Coconut – ½ Cup 

3. Mackerel – 250-300 Grams 

    Salt, Tamarind – As Required 

4. Tapioca – ½ Kg, Cut into Small Pieces 

5. Coconut Oil – As Required 

    Mustard Seeds – ¼ Small Spoon 

6. Onion, Finely Chopped – 2 Small Spoons 

    Curry Leaves – A Few 

    Dry Red Chilli, Chopped – 2 

    Grated Coconut – 4 Small Spoons 

How to prepare Ayalayum Kappayum (Mackerel and Tapioca)?

1. Grind the first set of ingredients well. Add ½ cup of grated coconut and grind it coarsely. 

2. Cook the mackerel with enough salt and tamarind. Remove the bones and set aside. The cleaned fish should weigh 250 grams. 

3. Cook the tapioca and mash it while hot. Place the ground mixture and salt in the center, cover, and heat until steam rises. Stir well. 

4. Add the fish to the tapioca mixture and mix thoroughly. 

5. Heat coconut oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds. 

6. Add the sixth set of ingredients and sauté well.

7. Mix this seasoning into the tapioca-fish mixture and stir well.
