
Ingredients for Achappam (Achumurukk):
1. Raw rice – 2 cups
2. Coconut – 1
3. Eggs – 3
4. Soda powder – A pinch
Sugar – As required
Salt – As required
Sesame seeds – 1 small spoon
5. Coconut oil – For frying
How to prepare Achappam (Achumurukk)?
1. Soak rice in water for a few hours.
2. Extract coconut milk from the coconut.
3. Grind rice, adding coconut milk to make a smooth paste.
4. Beat three eggs and add to the ground rice to prepare the batter of a thick consistency.
5. Heat oil in a thick-bottomed pan.
6. Take the achappam mould and dip 3/4th of it in the batter. (If you dip it fully, achappam won’t separate from the mould once it is fried).
7. You can also use two moulds to prepare achappam fast. While you are frying one achappam in hot oil, you can dip the second mould in batter.
Tip: Using two moulds makes your job easy. Immerse the moulds in water for 24 hours, one day before making achappam. If so, achappam easily separates from the mould while frying.
