Vega Tamotia – Indian Film actress of ‘Pasanga’ fame

Vega Tamotia is a film actress best known for her work in Tamil films – Pasanga and Saroja, where she played lead roles, and was a part of ensemble cast of hit film – Vaanam. She has also done supporting roles in Bollywood flicks such as Chittagong and Jai Gangaajal, and lead role in comedy flick – Amit Sahni Ki List. She has been a part of couple of Telugu flicks – Happy Happy Goa and Housefull, and a few more flicks. Her role as Sobikannu – kindergarten teacher in Pasanga is best among her performances and earned her a nomination for best actress at Vijay Awards. She played the titular role of Saroja, the kidnapped girl in her debut flick, Saroja.

Vega Tamotia was born in 1987 in Chhattisgarh. She was brought up in Sydney where she completed her education. She reached Mumbai for the first time to pursue a career in theater and acting. She initially worked with Broadway Drama Troupe. She was spotted by Swanand Kirkire who gave her the female lead role in his Hindi musical ‘Aao Saathi Sapna Dekhein’. She also appeared in a few more musical comedies of the acclaimed lyricist till she got busy in films.

She got first break to films through Saroja in 2008, where she was casted as the female protagonist. After the big success of the film she bagged a few Telugu and Bollywood projects as well. Aamras in 2009 marked her Bollywood debut, and she was casted as Pritilata Waddedar opposite Manoj Vajpayee for the acclaimed biopic Chittagong in 2012.

1. Since school days she has been a part of plays.

2. Vega initially worked in theater before joining films. She also worked as a theatre artist in Australia before moving to India.

3. She spent 14 years in Australia.

4. She was one member of the team which received META for Best Ensemble in 2009 for Hindi musical ‘Aao Saathi Sapna Dekhein’.

5. Her academic studies were completed from University of New South Wales (Master’s in Economics) and Indian Institute of Management Bangalore.

6. She produced “Ghotu Motu ki Tolle” – a series for kids with 10 micro episodes.
