Tomato-Dal Curry (Paripp Thakkali Curry)

Ingredients for Tomato-Dal Curry (Paripp Thakkali Curry):

1. Split moong dal (Cheru Paripp/Green Gram Dal) – ½ kg 

    Onion, thinly sliced – 2 tablespoons 

    Garlic – 4 cloves 

    Turmeric powder – ¼ teaspoon 

    Water – As required 

2. Tomatoes – 250g, chopped 

    Green chillies – 4, sliced lengthwise 

    Salt – As required 

3. Grated coconut – ½ cup 

    Cumin – ½ teaspoon 

    Turmeric powder – ¼ teaspoon 

4. Coconut oil – 1 tablespoon 

5. Mustard seeds – 1 teaspoon 

6. Dry red chillies – 2, broken into pieces 

7. Kashmiri chilli powder – ½ teaspoon

How to prepare Tomato-Dal Curry (Paripp Thakkali Curry)?

1. Cook the ingredients listed under section 1 well on the stove. 

2. Once cooked, add the tomatoes, green chillies, and salt, and continue cooking. 

3. Add the ground paste made from the ingredients no: 3 to the cooked mixture and mix well. 

4. Heat coconut oil, splutter mustard seeds, then fry the dry red chillies and turn off the heat. 

5. Add the Kashmiri chilli powder to this, stir, and pour the seasoning into the curry before serving.
