Siju Sunny is a Malayalam film actor, a screenwriter too, who came into limelight from his early films itself. His appearance in 2023 horror-comedy Romancham earned him SIIMA Awards for Best Debutant Actor, and later he made memorable performances in Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil, Vaazha – Biopic of a Billion Boys, Vaazha – Biopic of a Billion Boys, Vyasanasametham Bandhumithradhikal and Parakramam. It can be said, all the movies of this talented young actor, right from Romancham got noticed, which is indeed a great achievement.

Siju Sunny began his career during the COVID-19 lockdown by creating comic reels

Siju Sunny hails from Keerukuzhi, Pathanamthitta district. Sunny Varughese and Mercy are his parents. Young Siju was interested in theatre and plays since childhood and his parents supported him. But when he took decision to take acting as his profession, it became hard to digest for his family.

For the happiness of his parents, he completed Mechanical Engineering. He also spent a few years in Gulf, when he felt like his acting dreams will never come true. He finally convinced his parents to try for one year in acting, which they agreed with hesitation.

While working at Dubai, he wrote one script. When he got a producer, he left the job and returned to Kerala. But unfortunately, the producer was not keen to take that project that time. He was sitting at home confused, when Covid-19 hit the globe.

Siju started doing social media content during the lockdown of 2020, and his comedy reels posted in Instagram got a lot of fans. It helped him to earn a small role in Visudha Mejo (2022), followed by a brief appearance in Vellari Pattanam (2023). He continued posting comic reels and earned a lot of appreciation.

Romancham became the turning point of Siju Sunny’s acting career

The casting team of Romancham offered him the role of Mukesh Mohanan, after seeing his reels. His role was well received and he is currently shooting the sequel. The movie marked the directorial debut of Jithu Madhavan, who later directed Aavesham. Read his bio here.

For the filming of the low budget film, Romancham, he was given only 3 lungis and 1 shirt, and throughout the film, he mostly appeared shirtless. For the continuity of the role, the dress was very important. He appeared as a shabby character, without cutting hair or nails and wearing lungi, pulled up above the stomach. He was seen scratching his upper body from time to time, so that he would appear as an unkempt and unpleasant-looking person. That’s how he was placed in this film.

He turned a screenwriter with Maranamass

Siju Sunny scripted Maranamass in 2025, which was an average fare at box office. He played the pivot role of ‘Aruvi’ too. His role as Ajo Thomas in Vaazha – Biopic of a Billion Boys also received appreciation.

Same year, he played lead role in comedy drama in Vyasanasametham Bandhumithradhikal opposite Anaswara Rajan. The movie received positive reviews, and the song – Alvakannale featuring Siju Sunny was an instant chartbuster. The actor is mostly associated with comic roles. From side roles to lead role, the actor has come a long way in the brief period.

Siju Sunny – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. As he was very much interested in acting, right from childhood throughout his academic years, he used to knock doors of filmmakers, seeking opportunities.

2. When SIIMA Awards for Best Debutant Actor was announced, Siju was not comfortable to wear suit. So, he appeared in traditional Kerala attire for the show, and he was so happy to see people recognizing him through the role he played in Romancham.

3. When he got the renumeration of his first film, the first thing he did was to treat his friends, because during him bad times when he was searching for chances in the industry, his friends supported him.
