Sangeeth Prathap is a popular actor and editor of Malayalam cinema, best associated with fun-type and humorous roles. He is best known for playing Amal Davis in Premalu and Jerry Thomas in Hridayapoorvam. It can be said, he gives new face to friendship in new generation Malayalam cinema. Either it’s Naslen’s buddy in Premalu or Mohanlal’s Nurse and Friend in Hridayapoorvam, Sangeeth Prathap rocks! An editor turned actor, he won Kerala state award for best editor for Little Miss Rawther in 2023.
Sangeeth Prathap – Short Biography

Sangeeth Prathap started his career as an assistant editor in 2019
In 2019 he worked as an assistant editor for the movie, Helen, and also appeared in an uncredited role. Post pandemic, he played Baiju in the 2022 blockbuster film, Hridayam. In the next few years, he worked as an editor in many movies, alongside doing some cameo roles in the films he associated with. Pathrosinte Padappukal, 4 Years, Little Miss Rawther, Jai Ganesh and Sarkeet are his works as an editor.
Premalu was Sangeeth’s first full-fledged film as an actor
He entered film industry as an editor, started doing small roles on screen and bagged his first major role through Premalu (2024) directed by Girish A. D. His screen chemistry with Nasleen worked seven wonders and his comedy timing earned him applause. A new actor was born, to stay as the buddy of lead hero. He did the same with Hridayapoorvam (2025). Despite having huge age gap with Mohanlal, their onscreen really worked, and thus Sangeeth Prathap cemented his position in the industry. His other roles as an actor include – Bromance and Thudarum.
Glimpses into his family and childhood
Sangeeth Prathap was born in Vypin, Enakulam. His father Pratap has worked as assistant cinematographer to Jayanan Vincent, and has been a part of iconic Malayalam movies like Thoovanathumbikal, Rajavinte Makan and In Harihar Nagar. His mother Annie is a retired teacher from government service.
During younger days, Sangeeth didn’t want to join film industry. For the same reason, he watched lesser number of movies. His father used to tell them about film shots, camera lens etc. Slowly cinema started attracting him like magic. While studying in class 10, he started assisting his father in short films. Slowly he started dreaming about making cinema.
Though he won many competitions in mimicry, monoact and folk dance, he was not much attracted to acting. While studying in Plus-1, he won first prize in mimicry in district level. With dreams to become the youngest director of the industry, he pursed BSc Multimedia. He studied editing as a part of his studies, and slowly his attention diverted towards this field.
As an editor, he began with editing wedding videos
He made a trailer editing a full-length film, and that’s how his attraction to editing grew stronger. Then he started editing wedding videos. He was recommended to editor Shemir Mohammed by his father’s friend, director Anoop Kannan. Thus, he started working as an assistant editor with Shemir. Swathanthryam Ardharatriyil was the first project, where he worked as an assistant. He stayed with the editor for 2 years, nurturing his filmmaking dreams.
His unexpected entry into acting
For Girish A. D’s movie, Thanneermathan Dinangal, he worked as spot editor. He used to perform mimicry on the film sets to entertain the crew and the director felt that Sangeeth Prathap has acting skills too. He was casted in the main lead in a short film directed by Girish.
While he was doing spot editing for Helen, he got the opportunity to act in Hridayam. At that time, although he was not interested in acting, when he heard Vineeth Sreenivasan’s name, he said, yes to that toxic character he played on screen. Here began a new journey through the same path, but as a new traveller.
A couple of new projects have been announced, where Sangeeth plays lead role. Sangeeth Prathap is married to Ancy, who is a German tutor too. T They dated for 3 years and got married in 2024.
